Tropical Torfin Complex is a high-grade peat extract designed to replicate the blackwater conditions found in tropical rivers and streams. It acidifies water slightly, reduces hardness, and releases humic compounds and tannins that actively inhibit fungal and bacterial growth — making it a practical tool for keepers housing sensitive tropical species.

What It Does

Added to the enclosure or aquarium water, Torfin Complex imparts a characteristic amber tint consistent with natural blackwater habitats. Beyond aesthetics, the humic acids and tannins it releases work to lower the risk of infections by creating an environment less hospitable to pathogens. Water hardness is reduced and pH is gently acidified, shifting conditions closer to what many tropical species experience in the wild.

Suitable Species

Torfin Complex is well suited to setups housing discus, angelfish, South American cichlids, characins, Colisa, Corydoras, and other species that originate from soft, acidic tropical waters. If you are working with particularly demanding species or heavily planted blackwater systems, it can be used alongside a substrate-based conditioning medium such as Querex for greater effect.
