Product Information
Tropical Grey Woodlice (Trichorhina sp.) are a soft-bodied, tropical woodlouse species reaching approximately 5mm in length. They serve a dual purpose in forest-style vivariums: as a live food source for smaller reptiles and amphibians, and as a functional part of a bioactive clean-up crew, breaking down waste and recycling nutrients through the substrate.
Role in a Bioactive Setup
In a well-maintained bioactive terrarium, Tropical Grey Woodlice will consume organic waste, decaying plant matter, and other detritus, helping to keep the vivarium clean naturally. Given the right conditions, they breed prolifically, establishing a self-sustaining colony that provides an ongoing food source without the need for constant restocking.
Packaging and Delivery
Each pre-pack arrives in a ventilated plastic container with perforated sides to maximise airflow while keeping escape risk low. The base is lined with a nutrient-rich, soil-based substrate to support the colony during transit. The colony is typically hatched in transit and should be fully established within approximately one week of arrival.
Keeping and Feeding
To maintain your colony at its best, continue feeding on a varied diet of fresh fruit, vegetables, and insect-based foods. A nutritious diet keeps the woodlice healthy and ensures they remain a worthwhile food source or active crew member in your setup.
A practical, low-maintenance addition to any bioactive vivarium, Tropical Grey Woodlice are a sound choice for keepers looking to support natural vivarium function alongside their reptile or amphibian collection.
