Product Information

Small black crickets are a staple livefood for reptile and amphibian keepers across the UK. Gut-loaded before packing and dispatched directly from the breeder, these pre-packs are available in two quantities to suit your feeding routine — whether you're topping up between orders or stocking up for a collection.

Why Black Crickets

Black crickets are highly nutritious, straightforward to digest, and easy for animals to catch — making them a reliable choice for daily feeding. Their small size makes them well-matched to hatchlings, juveniles, and smaller species that need appropriately sized prey items. They're sent out gut-loaded, so the nutritional work is already done on arrival.

Suitable Species

Small black crickets are particularly well suited to:

  • Baby bearded dragons
  • Baby leopard geckos
  • Baby crested geckos
  • Baby chameleons
  • Tree frogs
  • Small spiders and invertebrates such as mantis and tarantulas

Packaging and Transit

Crickets arrive in a ventilated plastic tub with egg-box cardboard inside, which increases surface area, reduces overcrowding, and keeps the insects in good condition during transit. Airflow holes along the sides keep things stable without compromising containment. In warmer months the outer box may carry additional perforations for cooling; in colder months a heat pack may be included to maintain a suitable temperature on the way to you.

Keeping Them in Good Condition

Once your crickets arrive, continue gut-loading them right up until feeding. Offer fresh leafy greens and vegetables such as raw carrot, squash, or sweet potato — these provide both hydration and nutrients. Remove any uneaten food daily to prevent mould build-up. Keep the tub at room temperature, away from direct sunlight and draughts, and make sure the housing isn't overcrowded.

Feeding Well Makes a Difference

Well-maintained, well-fed crickets pass on far greater nutritional benefit to your animals. For reptiles with high protein requirements at early life stages — such as baby bearded dragons or young chameleons — the quality of your livefood directly affects growth and condition. Dusting with an appropriate supplement before feeding further increases their nutritional value.

Choose the pack size that fits your feeding frequency and the number of animals you're keeping. Both options are dispatched fresh from the breeder, so what arrives is ready to use.
