Psittacus Lory Nectar

Psittacus Lory Nectar is a complementary food formulated specifically for adult lorikeets and lories — birds of the Loriinae subfamily whose highly specialised diet demands more than a standard seed or pellet mix can offer. Rich in dehydrated fruit and natural sugars, it closely reflects the nectarivorous feeding habits these birds depend on, and is available in a choice of sizes to suit single-bird setups through to larger collections.

How to Offer It

Psittacus Lory Nectar can be served dry or mixed with water to form a suspension. If prepared wet, avoid over-diluting the mixture — too much water reduces nutritional density and encourages rapid spoilage. Always present it in a dedicated feeder rather than mixing it with other food sources.

Part of a Balanced Lory Diet

This is a complementary food, not a complete standalone diet. It is designed to be offered alongside Lory Gel, with both products provided simultaneously in separate feeders. Birds will naturally regulate how much of each they consume based on their own nutritional requirements at any given time. The two products work together to cover the broad dietary spectrum that lories and lorikeets need.

Feeding During the Breeding Season

When chicks are present in the nest, the dietary demands on parent birds increase significantly. During this period, it is advisable to also make available an appropriate hand-feeding formula — either a Frugivorous Neonatal Hand Feeding Formula or a Lory-specific Hand Feeding Formula depending on the age of the chicks — to ensure both adults and developing young are properly supported.

Feeding Quantities

As a general guide, lories and lorikeets consume roughly 7–10 g of combined dry Gel and Nectar per 100 g of body weight each day. Actual intake will vary depending on ambient temperature, with birds tending to consume more in cooler conditions. Monitoring daily intake and adjusting presentation accordingly helps keep waste low and nutrition consistent.
