How to Prepare and Offer

Lory Gel can be served dry or mixed with water to a smooth, creamy consistency — neither too runny nor too stiff. Preparing it too liquid is not recommended, as this reduces nutritional density and can lead to spoilage. Always use clean feeders and replace the gel regularly, particularly in warmer conditions where consumption and bacterial growth both increase.

Pairing with Lory Nectar

Lory Gel is designed to be offered alongside a complementary nectar product, presented in separate feeders at the same time. The two foods work together, and birds will regulate their own intake of each according to their nutritional requirements on any given day. This dual-feeder approach mirrors the varied diet these birds would encounter in the wild.

Feeding During Breeding

When chicks are present in the nest, it is advisable to ensure the adult birds also have access to an appropriate hand-feeding formula — either a frugivorous neonatal formula or a lory-specific hand-feeding formula, depending on the age of the chicks. This supports both adult condition and chick development during the breeding period.

Feeding Quantities

As a general guideline, lorikeets consume roughly 7–10 g of combined gel and nectar per 100 g of body weight per day. Ambient temperature has a significant influence on daily intake, so consumption should be monitored and adjusted seasonally. Analytical constituents: crude protein 17.0%, crude oils and fats 8.0%.
