ProRep Straw Bedding

ProRep Straw Bedding is a compressed straw pellet substrate suited to tortoises, large snakes, and lizards from arid environments. It breaks down into a soft, yielding surface underfoot while remaining dry enough for species that need low-humidity conditions in their vivarium or terrarium.

What It's Made From

The substrate is formed from compressed straw pellets, which soften on contact to create a natural-feeling bedding without the loose, dusty quality of some alternatives. Importantly, the construction means it should not cause impaction if accidentally ingested — a genuine consideration for tortoises and other species that regularly forage through their substrate.

How to Use It

Spread the substrate evenly across the floor of the enclosure to a minimum depth of 2.5–5cm (1–2 inches). Spot-clean daily to keep the enclosure hygienic, and replace the substrate fully every two to three weeks — or sooner if it becomes heavily soiled or damp. This bedding is intended for dry use only and should not be used wet.

Heat Mat Compatibility

If an under-tank heat mat is your primary heat source, avoid laying a deep layer of straw bedding directly over it. Excessive insulation above a heat mat can cause it to overheat. Always follow the heat mat manufacturer's guidance on safe substrate depths.
