ProRep Straw Bedding

ProRep Straw Bedding is a compressed straw pellet substrate designed for tortoises and other large snakes and lizards from arid environments. It breaks down into a soft, loose layer underfoot while remaining dry enough to suit desert and semi-arid vivarium setups.

What It's Made For

This substrate is well suited to reptiles from arid habitats — tortoises in particular, but also many large lizard and snake species that thrive in dry conditions. The compressed pellet construction produces a softer surface than raw straw, and should not cause impaction if accidentally ingested during feeding.

How to Use It

Spread the bedding evenly across the base of the enclosure to a depth of at least 2.5–5cm (1–2 inches). Spot-clean daily to remove waste, and replace the entire substrate every two to three weeks — or sooner if it becomes heavily soiled or damp. This product is intended for dry use only and should never be used wet.

Using With Heat Mats

If an under-tank heat mat is your primary heat source, avoid laying a thick layer of this bedding directly above it. Excessive depth can trap heat and cause the mat to overheat. Always follow the heat mat manufacturer's guidance on safe substrate depth.
