ProRep Beetle Grub

ProRep Beetle Grub is a specialist substrate food designed for rearing beetle larvae in captivity. Beetle grubs have highly specific nutritional requirements that cannot be met by generic organic matter — this range has been developed to meet those needs precisely, making it an essential part of any serious invertebrate setup.

Why Beetle Larvae Need Specialist Food

The key to successfully rearing beetle larvae lies in the presence of white fungus — a specific fungus that breaks down cellulose and lignin in plant material, converting it into a form the larvae can actually digest and absorb. Without this fungal activity, beetle grubs simply cannot process the substrate efficiently, and long-term health and development suffers. ProRep Beetle Grub is specially prepared and inoculated with this fungus, then allowed to mature before use.

What Each Type Contains

• Beetle Grub 1 — prepared, mature broad leaf tree leaf litter, infected with white fungus and conditioned for larval feeding
• Beetle Grub 2 — hardwood chips inoculated with white fungus and matured to the correct stage for larval consumption

Mixing for Different Species

The two types are not interchangeable — they are designed to be used together, mixed in varying proportions depending on the beetle species being reared. Different species have different dietary preferences, and adjusting the ratio of Beetle Grub 1 to Beetle Grub 2 allows keepers to tailor the substrate to their animals.
