ProRep Beetle Grub (Type A)

ProRep Beetle Grub is a specialist substrate food designed for rearing beetle larvae, including popular species kept as live invertebrates or bred as feeders. Beetle grubs have highly specific dietary requirements that cannot be met with standard substrates — this product is formulated to meet those needs directly.

Why Beetle Larvae Need Specialist Food

Beetle larvae cannot digest raw cellulose and lignin found in wood and leaf matter on their own. They rely on a specific white fungus to break these materials down into a form they can actually absorb and use. Without this fungus present in their substrate, larvae will fail to thrive regardless of what else is provided.

What's in Each Type

ProRep Beetle Grub is available in two distinct formulations, each playing a different role in larval nutrition:

• Beetle Grub 1 — prepared, matured broadleaf tree leaf litter, inoculated with white fungus
• Beetle Grub 2 — hardwood chips infected with white fungus and allowed to mature fully before use

Mixing for Your Species

The two types are not interchangeable — they are designed to be combined in different ratios depending on the species of beetle being reared. Some species require a higher proportion of one type over the other, so understanding the requirements of your specific beetle is key to getting the best results.
