ProRep Beech Chips Fine

ProRep Beech Chips Fine is a clean, natural loose substrate suited to a wide range of larger snakes, lizards, birds, and small mammals. Kiln-dried and produced from sustainably harvested wood, it offers a practical, naturalistic floor covering for vivariums and terrariums of all sizes. Available in a range of bag sizes to suit everything from a single enclosure to a multi-vivarium collection.

Substrate Quality

Produced from kiln-dried beech wood, these chips are low in dust and free from the moisture that can harbour bacteria in untreated substrates. The fine chip size makes it well suited to species that burrow lightly or move across a loose surface, and the neutral colouring works cleanly against most vivarium décor.

Recommended Use

Spread the substrate evenly across the base of the enclosure to a depth of at least 2.5–5cm. Spot-clean daily to remove waste and soiled material, and replace the entire substrate every two to three weeks — or sooner if it becomes heavily wet or contaminated.

Heat Mat Compatibility

If you are heating the enclosure with an under-tank heat mat, avoid laying an excessively thick layer of beech chips directly over it. A thick substrate layer can trap heat and cause the mat to overheat. Always follow the heat mat manufacturer's guidance on substrate depth.
