ProRep Basking Spot Bulb ES (Screw)

The ProRep Basking Spot Lamp is a tungsten basking lamp designed specifically for reptile enclosures. With a built-in reflector that focuses visible light, UVA, and short-wave infrared heat into a defined basking zone, it replicates the concentrated warmth diurnal reptiles seek out in the wild. Available in a range of wattages to suit enclosures of different sizes and species requirements.

What It Does

This lamp delivers three things simultaneously: visible light to support natural day/night cycles, UVA output to promote healthy behaviour, and directional heat to create a warm basking spot. The integrated reflector concentrates output rather than scattering it, producing a defined hotspot that allows reptiles to thermoregulate by moving between the basking zone and cooler areas of the enclosure.

Creating a Thermal Gradient

Position the lamp directly above the intended basking site, approximately one third from one end of the vivarium. This placement allows a natural temperature gradient to develop across the enclosure, giving the animal control over its own body temperature — a critical requirement for diurnal species such as bearded dragons, uromastyx, and many agamids and monitors.

Compatibility and Fitting

The ES (Edison Screw) cap fits standard ES lamp holders. Always use the lamp in an approved fitting of the correct type and rating. A lamp guard must be used at all times to prevent direct contact between the animal and the lamp surface — burns from unguarded basking lamps are a common and entirely preventable injury.

Thermostat Use

Use of a dimming thermostat is strongly recommended with any basking lamp. A thermostat prevents overheating, protects the animal, and extends lamp life by avoiding prolonged operation at maximum output. ProRep Basking Spot Lamps are compatible with standard dimming thermostats.
