ProRep Bark Chips Fine

ProRep Bark Chips Fine is a natural loose substrate suited to reptiles, amphibians, and invertebrates that live in humid, forest, or jungle environments. Made from 100% natural bark, it supports the moisture levels these species depend on while providing a naturalistic floor covering for vivariums and terrariums. What It's For

This substrate is designed for species that require a humid microclimate — think rainforest reptiles, tropical amphibians, and humidity-dependent invertebrates. The fine chip grade sits well across the enclosure floor and holds moisture without becoming waterlogged when used correctly.

How to Use It

Spread the substrate evenly across the base of the enclosure to a minimum depth of 5cm. To raise ambient humidity, the chips can be lightly moistened — but avoid saturating them, as overly wet substrate encourages bacterial growth and can cause husbandry problems.

Maintenance

Spot-clean daily to remove waste and replace the substrate completely every two to three weeks under normal conditions. If the enclosure becomes heavily soiled, replace it sooner. Consistent substrate hygiene is important for the long-term health of the animals living on it.

Heat Mat Compatibility

If you are running an under-tank heat mat as your primary heat source, avoid applying a thick layer of this substrate directly above it. A deep insulating layer can cause the mat to overheat. Always follow the heat mat manufacturer's guidance on safe substrate depth.
