Product Information
ProRep Bark Chips Fine is a 100% natural loose substrate designed for reptiles, amphibians, and invertebrates that require a humid vivarium environment. Sourced from bark and free from artificial additives, it suits forest and jungle species particularly well — from tree frogs and dart frogs to tropical geckos, boas, and a wide range of invertebrates.
What It's Suitable For
This substrate is built for humid-environment setups. Species that naturally inhabit forest floors, rainforest margins, or jungle habitats will benefit from the moisture-retention properties of fine bark chips. It is equally at home in bioactive builds as in standard terrarium or vivarium setups.
How to Use It
Spread the substrate evenly across the floor of the enclosure to a minimum depth of 5cm (2 inches). Bark chips can be lightly moistened to raise ambient humidity — mist carefully and avoid waterlogging, as overly wet substrate can harbour bacteria and cause respiratory issues for the animals living on it.
Maintenance
- Spot-clean daily to remove waste and soiled material
- Replace the full substrate every two to three weeks, or sooner if it becomes heavily soiled
- Monitor moisture levels regularly — damp but not wet is the target
Heat Mat Compatibility
If you are running an under-tank heat mat as your primary heat source, keep the depth of bark chips in mind. A thick layer of substrate over a heat mat can restrict heat dissipation and cause overheating. Always check the heat mat manufacturer's guidelines before use.
Choosing Your Size
ProRep Bark Chips Fine is available in a range of bag sizes to suit everything from compact terrariums to large vivarium setups or multi-enclosure collections. Select the size that fits your setup from the options above.
