Suitable Species

Moisture and Humidity

Bark chips can be lightly moistened to help raise humidity levels within the enclosure. Avoid saturating them or allowing the substrate to become waterlogged, as overly wet conditions can encourage bacterial growth and are unlikely to benefit your animals.

Maintenance

Spot-clean the substrate daily to remove waste and keep conditions hygienic. A full substrate change every two to three weeks is recommended under normal conditions — or sooner if the enclosure becomes heavily soiled.

Heatmat Compatibility

If you are using an under-tank heatmat as your primary heat source, avoid applying a thick layer of bark chips directly above it. A deep substrate layer can trap heat and cause the mat to overheat. Always consult the heatmat manufacturer's instructions for guidance on safe substrate depth.
