ProRep Aspen Bedding

ProRep Aspen Bedding is a natural loose substrate suited to snakes, many lizards, birds, and small mammals. Shredded from sustainably sourced wood, it provides a clean, workable base layer that supports natural burrowing behaviour without introducing unnecessary risk into the enclosure.

What It's Made From

This substrate is produced from non-toxic shredded wood taken from sustainable forests. It is soft, dust-free, and odourless — qualities that matter for species sensitive to airborne irritants and for keepers who want a substrate that doesn't compromise enclosure air quality.

Absorbency and Hygiene

Aspen is highly absorbent, drawing moisture away from the surface and helping to keep the enclosure dry. Spot-clean daily to remove waste, and replace the full substrate every two to three weeks — or sooner if it becomes heavily soiled or wet.

Application

Spread evenly across the floor of the vivarium or terrarium to a minimum depth of 1–2 inches (2.5–5cm). This gives burrowing species enough material to work with while maintaining a manageable layer throughout the enclosure.

Heat Mat Compatibility

If you are running an under-tank heat mat as your primary heat source, avoid laying a thick bed of aspen directly over it. An overly deep layer can cause the mat to overheat. Always follow the heat mat manufacturer's guidelines on substrate depth.
