High Bioavailability Calcium

Each block is composed of 100% calcium carbonate, selected for its high bioavailability — meaning it is readily absorbed through the gut rather than passing through unused. This makes it a reliable and efficient calcium source when tortoises self-administer as needed.

How to Use

Simply place the block directly into the enclosure. Tortoises will naturally investigate and use the block when their body signals a need for calcium, requiring no measurement or scheduling from the keeper.

A Note on D3 and UVB

Calcium absorption in reptiles and amphibians is largely dependent on the presence of vitamin D3. Without adequate UVB lighting of the correct wavelength and intensity — or a supplementary oral D3 source — calcium uptake will be significantly reduced regardless of supply. Ensure your UVB setup is appropriate for the species before relying on any calcium source.

Product Notes

This is a natural product, packed by hand. While every reasonable step is taken to prevent contamination, there is a very low risk that individual blocks may contain flint. Flint is easy to identify — it appears as solid black or dark brown material against the white calcium carbonate, and any such pieces should be removed if found.
