Product Information

The ProRep Living Stone (Medium) is a Lithops sp. — one of the most distinctive succulents available for arid vivarium setups. These slow-growing, stone-mimicking plants are a natural fit for desert terrariums, adding genuine botanical interest while requiring very little intervention from the keeper.

About Living Stones

Lithops are native to southern African desert environments and have evolved to resemble the pebbles and rocks around them — a remarkable adaptation that makes them a conversation piece in any setup. They spread gradually by producing offshoots and prefer to be left undisturbed once established. They are best suited to vivariums housing small, calm species that won't dig or disrupt the substrate.

Growing Requirements

Living Stones demand bright light and excellent drainage. Their roots must never sit in consistently wet substrate — a well-draining, sandy or gritty desert mix is essential. They are highly drought-tolerant and will fare far better with underwatering than overwatering, making them well-matched to the dry conditions of a desert terrarium.

Benefits in a Terrarium Setting

  • Provides naturalistic ground cover that blends with rocky desert décor
  • Offers shade and visual cover for small terrestrial species
  • Contributes to a more biologically active and enriching environment
  • Slow-spreading growth habit means it won't quickly outgrow the space

Suitability

Living Stones are appropriate for arid and semi-arid vivarium builds. They are not suited to high-humidity or jungle setups. Always consider the behaviour of your animals before introducing live plants — species that dig or graze heavily may damage or uproot them.

As part of ProRep's curated range of terrarium-ready live plants, this medium Lithops has been selected specifically with reptile keeping in mind — a plant that earns its place through both looks and low-maintenance practicality.
