What it's made from

The substrate is derived from coconut husk, processed by removing the outer husk and grinding the fibrous material to size. It is slightly acidic in nature, carries high antibacterial properties, and has a high lignin content — which means it resists rotting even when kept moist. There are no artificial additives or treatments.

Suitable species and environments

PR Coco Bedding Fine works well for any species that benefits from a humid enclosure — tropical reptiles, dart frog setups, burrowing invertebrates, and moisture-dependent amphibians are all well served by this substrate. It can be used dry for species with lower humidity requirements or kept damp for those needing consistently high humidity. It also mixes well with other substrates where a blended setup is preferred.

How to use it

• Spread evenly across the enclosure floor to a depth of 1–2 inches (2.5–5cm)
• Spot clean daily, removing soiled areas and replacing with fresh substrate
• Mist with water to raise humidity as needed; avoid waterlogging
• Full substrate change recommended every two to three weeks, or sooner if heavily soiled
• Can be used wet or dry, or blended with other substrates

Using with a heat mat

If a heat mat is being used beneath the enclosure or under a glass tank, keep substrate depth to no more than 1cm and position the thermostat probe directly on the mat. Always follow the heat mat manufacturer's guidance — exceeding the recommended substrate depth over a heat mat can cause overheating.
