ProRep Coco Bedding Coarse 10 Litre – Natural Coconut Chip Substrate

PR Coco Bedding Coarse is a 100% natural coconut husk substrate in a coarser chip grade, suited to reptiles, amphibians, and invertebrates that need a humid vivarium environment. Derived from the fibrous outer husk of the coconut, it is a sustainable, biodegradable bedding that works dry or moist depending on your setup.

Where It Comes From

After the husk is separated from the coconut, it is screened and processed to produce a consistent chip size. The substrate is naturally slightly acidic, carries high antibacterial properties, and has a high lignin content — meaning it resists decomposition even when kept damp, giving it a longer usable life than many organic substrates.

Suitable Species

Any species requiring elevated humidity will benefit from this substrate. It is commonly used for tropical and rainforest reptiles, dart frogs, tree frogs, tarantulas, and other invertebrates. It can be used as a standalone substrate or blended with other materials to fine-tune texture and moisture retention.

Using It in the Enclosure

• Spread evenly to a depth of 1–2 inches (2.5–5cm) across the enclosure floor
• Spot clean daily — remove soiled areas and top up with fresh substrate
• Mist with water to raise humidity; avoid waterlogging
• Full replacement recommended every two to three weeks, or sooner if heavily soiled
• Can be used dry or moistened depending on species requirements

Using With a Heat Mat

If a heat mat is being used beneath the substrate or under a glass tank, the substrate depth must not exceed 1cm. Position the thermostat probe directly on the mat rather than within the substrate. Always follow the heat mat manufacturer's guidance — insufficient clearance can cause the mat to overheat.
