PR Bio Life Leaf Litter 3L is a natural mixed-leaf substrate layer designed for bioactive vivariums housing snakes, lizards, frogs, and salamanders. It replicates the forest floor litter layer found in the wild, providing cover for animals and the right conditions for custodian invertebrates and beneficial microorganisms to do their job.

How to Build and Maintain Your Litter Layer

• Aim for a litter depth of at least 3–4cm — in the wild, this layer is typically 24–30cm or more
• Start by breaking some leaves up by hand and scattering fine pieces over your base substrate to a minimum 1cm depth, then spray to hold them in place
• Add whole unbroken leaves on top to provide animal cover and give custodians like springtails a refuge from terrestrial inhabitants such as dart frogs
• Replenish the layer every 4–6 months as material is broken down and consumed, or sooner if needed
• Allow at least 3–4 weeks for the litter layer to establish before introducing your animals, though it can be added to an occupied enclosure
• Custodian insects may need supplementary feeding — springtail food is a suitable accompaniment
