Lucky Reptile Jungle Bedding is a specialist substrate blend formulated specifically for tropical terrariums. Combining carefully selected materials including sand, it replicates the loose, moisture-retentive leaf-humus layers found on rainforest floors — making it a strong choice for keepers setting up bioactive or high-humidity vivarium builds.

Formulation and Composition

This is not a generic coco fibre or bark mix. The inclusion of sand in the blend gives the substrate genuine structural stability, allowing it to hold burrows and surface features rather than collapsing under its own weight. The pH sits at approximately 5.5–6.5, closely mirroring the acidic leaf-litter layers of tropical rainforest environments — important for both animal welfare and the establishment of live plants or microfauna.

Moisture Management

Jungle Bedding is engineered to absorb and retain water effectively, supporting the elevated humidity levels that tropical species require. Importantly, even substrate that has dried out will rehydrate readily when misted — maintaining a functional moisture gradient without compacting or becoming hydrophobic over time. No surfactants or fertilisers have been added, keeping the environment safe for sensitive species.

Drainage Layer Compatibility

To prevent waterlogging — a common issue in tropical setups — Lucky Reptile recommend pairing Jungle Bedding with a dedicated drainage layer beneath the substrate. A hydro drain base combined with a separating fleece layer allows excess water to pass through and collect below, keeping the substrate zone moist without becoming anaerobic or swampy.
