Product Information

The Locust Super-Pack – Large is a bulk livefood option designed for reptile keepers who need a reliable, high-quality supply of large locusts. Dispatched directly from the breeder and gut-loaded before packing, these arrive in the best possible condition and ready to feed. Available in a range of quantities to suit feeding routines of different scale — from smaller collections to multi-animal setups.

Why Locusts?

Large locusts are one of the most widely used feeder insects in UK reptile keeping, and for good reason. They are straightforward for animals to chase and catch, nutritious, and relatively easy to digest — making them well suited to regular, daily feeding. Their size makes them appropriate for a broad range of species that have moved beyond small or medium livefood.

Suitable Species

Large locusts are well matched to a range of reptiles, amphibians, and invertebrates. Species commonly fed on large locusts include:

  • Juvenile bearded dragons
  • Juvenile geckos
  • Tree frogs and toads
  • Juvenile turtles
  • Tarantulas
  • Insectivorous mantis species

Packaging and Delivery

Locusts are packed in a ventilated plastic tub with egg-box cardboard inside — giving them space to spread out and reducing stress from overcrowding. The ventilation holes maintain airflow while keeping insects secure. During warmer months, the outer carton may include additional perforations to assist cooling; in colder months, a heat pack is included to maintain a safe transit temperature.

Keeping and Gut-Loading

To get maximum nutritional benefit from your locusts, keep them active and well-fed right up until they are used. House large locusts at room temperature, away from direct sunlight or cold draughts, and refresh their food regularly. Suitable foods include fresh leafy greens, carrot, squash, and sweet potato — these provide both hydration and nutrients. Remove uneaten food daily to prevent mould and maintain a clean holding environment.

Animal Suitability and Nutrition

Because these locusts are gut-loaded before dispatch, your animals benefit from that nutritional content from the first feed. Well-conditioned locusts support healthy digestion and contribute meaningfully to a balanced diet for insectivorous reptiles and amphibians. Dusting with a calcium or vitamin supplement at feeding time is always recommended as part of a complete nutrition strategy.

Choose the quantity that suits your setup — whether you're feeding a single animal or maintaining a larger collection, the Super-Pack range ensures you have enough stock on hand without compromising freshness. If there is any issue with condition, size, or quality on arrival, contact the Viperia team and we will resolve it promptly.
