Product Information

Black crickets (Gryllus bimaculatus) are a staple livefood for reptile and amphibian keepers across the UK. This standard/large size is suited to adult reptiles and other larger insectivores, and is available in a range of pack sizes to match your feeding routine — whether you're topping up for a single animal or stocking up for a collection.

Why Black Crickets

Standard/large black crickets are well established as a core feeder insect. They are nutritious, easy for most reptiles to catch and digest, and widely accepted by a broad range of species. Dispatched directly from the breeder and gut-loaded before packing, they arrive in the best possible nutritional condition for your animals.

Suitable Species

This size is well matched to adult and larger animals. Commonly fed to:

  • Bearded Dragons
  • Water Dragons
  • Leopard Geckos
  • Crested Geckos
  • Pacman Frogs and Bullfrogs
  • Axolotls
  • Large insectivorous invertebrates such as tarantulas and praying mantis

Packaging and Transit

Crickets arrive in a ventilated plastic tub with egg-box cardboard inside to increase surface area, reduce overcrowding, and give the insects space to spread out safely. Air holes along the sides maintain airflow while keeping the insects contained. During warmer months the outer box may carry additional perforations for ventilation; in colder months a heat pack may be included to protect the insects during transit.

Keeping Your Crickets

Store at room temperature, away from direct sunlight and draughts. Feed them regularly on fresh leafy greens, carrot, squash, or sweet potato — this maintains hydration and nutrient content right up until feeding time. Specialist gut-loading diets can also be used to further boost nutritional value. Remove uneaten food daily to prevent mould and keep the housing clean.

Animal Suitability and Feeding

Well-maintained, well-fed crickets are significantly more beneficial to your reptile than crickets that have been left without food or kept in poor conditions. Gut-loaded crickets contribute more effectively to your animal's diet and digestion. Always dust with an appropriate calcium or vitamin supplement before feeding where your species requires it.

Available in a small pack for regular top-ups or a larger bag for keepers feeding multiple animals or larger species — choose the quantity that fits your setup from the options above.
