Product Information

A hardy, characterful succulent suited to desert vivariums and arid reptile enclosures, the Jade Plant (Crassula sp.) brings year-round greenery without demanding much from the keeper. This large specimen adds immediate visual weight to a setup and is well-matched to species from dry, sun-baked environments.

Appearance

Jade Plants produce thick, fleshy, oval-shaped leaves in a deep, glossy green, often developing a subtle red tinge along the leaf margins under high light. Young growth emerges on smooth stems that share the same texture and colouration as the foliage, gradually maturing into a firm, woody, brown stem over time — giving established plants a genuinely tree-like structure.

Light Requirements

These plants thrive with abundant light and should be positioned where they receive strong, direct or near-direct illumination — a south- or west-facing aspect indoors works well. They will tolerate lower light conditions, though growth will slow. During warmer months, specimens can be moved outdoors to a sunny position; bring them back inside before autumn temperatures drop.

Planting and Substrate

For healthy root development, mix extra grit into standard compost or use a dedicated cacti and succulent compost mix. Adding a top layer of gravel or pebbles around the base helps retain a naturalistic appearance and reduces moisture evaporation from the substrate surface.

A straightforward plant to keep and a reliable choice for any arid vivarium build — low maintenance, visually strong, and well-suited to the conditions most desert reptile keepers already provide.
