Garden Croton 'Petra' (Codiaeum variegatum)

The Garden Croton 'Petra' (Codiaeum variegatum) is a bold, visually striking tropical plant suited to warm, humid vivarium setups. This large specimen brings genuine colour and structure to tropical reptile enclosures, going well beyond the purely decorative.

Appearance

Petra produces large, leathery oval leaves with a distinctly ruffled texture. Foliage spans green and yellow tones, often with red-blushed undersides, while the lighter-coloured veins create sharp contrast against darker backgrounds — making every leaf a focal point inside the enclosure.

Vivarium Suitability

This species thrives in warm temperatures and high humidity, conditions that align closely with tropical reptile and amphibian setups. It is a natural fit for bioactive builds housing species such as day geckos, chameleons, tree frogs, or other tropical fauna that benefit from dense, layered planting.
