Flame Moss (Taxiphyllum alternans 'Taiwan Flame')

ProRep Flame Moss is a live aquatic moss supplied in an 80cc cup, suited to high-humidity vivariums and bioactive terrariums where a naturalistic ground cover is the goal. It thrives in constantly wet or saturated conditions, making it a practical choice for tropical and rainforest setups.

Growing Conditions

Flame Moss requires consistently high humidity — 80% or above — to establish and spread. It will not tolerate dry air or periods of low moisture, so it performs best in closed or semi-closed terrariums where humidity is actively maintained. Avoid placing it under intense, scorching light sources, as this will cause it to deteriorate.

Lighting Tolerance

This moss is adaptable when its humidity requirements are met — it will grow in both bright and shaded positions within the vivarium. This flexibility makes it useful for filling in areas that receive uneven light coverage, such as under cork bark or behind décor.

Establishment and Spread

Once positioned, Flame Moss establishes quickly and gradually spreads to form a dense carpet across the substrate or hardscape surface. It can be trimmed back regularly to keep growth compact and to direct spread where it is wanted, giving the keeper ongoing control over the layout.

A straightforward addition to any high-humidity vivarium build, Flame Moss delivers a realistic moss carpet with minimal intervention once conditions are dialled in.
