ExoTerra T5 UVB Fixture

The Exo Terra T5 UVB Fixture is a high-performance lighting canopy designed specifically for reptile and amphibian terrariums. Available in four sizes to suit enclosures of different scale, it delivers serious UVB output for keepers who won't compromise on their animals' lighting requirements. It works with Exo Terra's own T5 VHO bulbs and is compatible with any T5 linear fluorescent tube of the appropriate wattage and length.

Electronic Ballast & Lamp Performance

The fixture runs a high-quality electronic ballast that eliminates flicker entirely — important for animal welfare and for keepers sensitive to it. The ballast also extends the working lifespan of T5 bulbs and improves overall output compared to conventional gear. Built-in protections cover over-voltage, over-current, overheating, and end-of-lamp-life (EOL) scenarios, reducing the risk of failures going unnoticed.

Reflector Output

The highly polished internal reflector increases usable lamp output by 2.5 times compared to running the bulb without one. This means more UVB and visible light reaching the floor of the enclosure — directly relevant to UV index gradients and basking zone effectiveness. For animals that require strong UVI levels, this kind of reflector efficiency makes a measurable difference.

Placement & Installation

The canopy sits directly on top of standard terrarium mesh, making installation straightforward without any modification to the enclosure. It can also be mounted inside the terrarium using the appropriate suspension kit accessory. The grounded plug is included as standard for safe, compliant UK use.

Linking Multiple Fixtures

Up to ten units can be linked together using optional grounded interconnection cables, available separately in two lengths. This is particularly useful for large or multi-enclosure setups — all linked fixtures can be controlled from a single timer, significantly reducing cable clutter. For extra-long enclosures, fixtures can also be mounted side by side using the appropriate joining accessory.

Pairing With a Basking Source

UVB alone is not sufficient — reptiles also require a strong source of infrared-A (near-infrared) radiation to thermoregulate properly and benefit fully from UV exposure. This fixture should always be used alongside a dedicated basking lamp, such as a halogen or intense basking spot, positioned to create a proper thermal gradient.
