Christmas Moss (Vesicularia montagnei)

Christmas moss is a versatile aquatic moss suited to bioactive and planted terrarium builds, supplied in an 80cc cup and ready to establish in the right conditions. It is a practical choice for keepers creating humid jungle setups, amphibian enclosures, or any vivarium where a natural living carpet is the goal.

Christmas Moss

Primarily an aquatic species, Christmas moss will also grow terrestrially provided conditions remain consistently wet and humidity is maintained at 80% or above. Once positioned, it establishes readily and spreads gradually to form a dense carpet across substrate or hardscape. It can be trimmed to keep growth contained and directed where it is needed.

Light and Conditions

This moss is tolerant of both bright light and shaded areas, making it adaptable to different zones within a vivarium. The key requirement is moisture — it will not survive in dry conditions or under intense, scorching direct light. Consistent humidity and a reliably damp substrate are essential for long-term health.

Why Use Live Plants in a Terrarium

• Provide natural cover, climbing surfaces, and shade for inhabitants
• Help maintain and stabilise enclosure humidity
• Support bioactive setups by contributing to a functioning living ecosystem
• Offer genuine behavioural enrichment beyond purely aesthetic appeal

Sourced as part of a curated range selected specifically for terrarium suitability, this moss is a straightforward way to add a functional, natural element to humid vivarium builds without the guesswork of adapting standard houseplants.
