Airplant - Tillandsia juncea

The ProRep Airplant Large Juncea is a tall, architectural bromeliad well suited to vivarium displays, bioactive terrariums, and mixed airplant arrangements. One of the most striking of the grassy-leaved airplants, it brings natural structure and genuine height to any setup.

Identification and Appearance

Juncea is closely related to Juncifolia and the two are frequently confused, but there is a reliable way to tell them apart: Juncea carries a noticeably greyer colouration to its slender, upright leaves. It is one of the so-called 'King and Queen' pairing of grassy airplants — a well-earned reputation among experienced keepers and plant enthusiasts alike.

Size and Growth

Starting at around 10cm, this large-grade specimen can grow to a height of 50cm, making it one of the taller airplant species available. That eventual height makes it especially useful when you need to add vertical interest to a display that would otherwise sit flat.

Flowering

When it blooms, Juncea produces pale blue flowers emerging from a central flower spike with a pink tinge at its base. Flowering is a natural seasonal event and varies between individual plants.

Display and Use in the Vivarium
