Airplant - Tillandsia butzii

The ProRep Airplant Large Butzii is a striking tillandsia variety well suited to vivarium and terrarium displays. Its distinctively speckled, twisting leaves carry markings that shift from deep purple through to dark pink, giving it genuine visual impact among naturalistic setups.

Appearance and Scale

A mature Butzii can reach 25–30cm in height, making it one of the more substantial airplant options available. The irregular, contorted foliage catches light well and stands out particularly when mounted on cork bark, driftwood, or natural shells, where the colouration becomes more pronounced.

Care Requirements

Butzii requires moderate watering and moderate light — it is not a species that tolerates complete neglect, but neither does it demand intensive maintenance. Kept in a clump, these plants become highly resilient and are considered virtually indestructible once established.

Flowering

With the right conditions and an occasional feed during spring and summer, Butzii may produce a pinkish-green flower spike bearing pale blue flowers. This is a rewarding development for keepers who invest a little extra care through the growing season.
