Adult locusts are one of the most widely used feeder insects in UK reptile keeping — active, nutritious, and readily taken by a broad range of lizards, chelonians, and invertebrates. Available in a range of quantities to suit different collection sizes and feeding frequencies, these are dispatched directly from the breeder and gut-loaded before packing to maximise their nutritional value on arrival.

Why Keepers Rely on Locusts

Locusts are highly digestible and nutritionally well-rounded, making them a sound staple rather than just an occasional treat. Their movement triggers a strong feeding response in many reptiles, including animals that can be reluctant feeders. Farm-bred in controlled conditions, these locusts are free from the risks associated with wild-caught insects.

Packaging and Delivery

Locusts arrive in ventilated packaging with egg-box cardboard inserts to give them space to move and reduce the stress of overcrowding in transit. During warmer months, additional perforations may be added to the outer packaging to aid airflow and cooling. In colder conditions, a heat pack may be included to help maintain a stable temperature during delivery.

Keeping Them in Good Condition

Store adult locusts at room temperature, away from direct sunlight and cold draughts. Continue feeding them right up until your reptile's next meal — offer fresh leafy greens, carrot, squash, or sweet potato, which provide both hydration and nutrients. Remove uneaten food daily to keep conditions clean and prevent mould. Well-maintained locusts deliver meaningfully better nutrition than those left without food.
