Product Information

Tropical Bacto-Active is a live bacterial treatment designed to establish and maintain a healthy biological cycle in freshwater aquariums. It introduces selected strains of beneficial bacteria that actively break down organic waste in the substrate and filter media, keeping water clear and biologically stable. Available in a range of sizes to suit tanks of different scale.

How It Works

The live bacterial cultures in Bacto-Active target organic matter accumulating in the substrate and filtration system, decomposing it efficiently and releasing ammonium ions in the process. This stimulates the growth of nitrifying bacteria, which in turn accelerates the establishment of the nitrogen cycle — the foundation of a stable, healthy aquarium.

What It Does for Your Tank

  • Initiates and stabilises the nitrogen cycle in new and established aquariums
  • Breaks down organic waste, reducing cloudiness and eliminating unpleasant odours
  • Replenishes bacterial populations after filter cleaning or substrate maintenance
  • Restores biological balance following antibiotic treatments
  • Supports long-term biological stability with regular use
  • Works synergistically with Tropical Nitri-Active to significantly shorten aquarium maturation time

When to Use It

Bacto-Active is suitable at multiple stages of an aquarium's life. Use it when setting up a new tank, during the maturation period, after water changes, following filter maintenance, or any time the biological balance has been disrupted. It is not a one-off product — regular application maintains the bacterial populations that keep water quality consistent.

Choosing Your Size

Bacto-Active is available in several sizes to match the volume of your setup. Smaller options suit compact or quarantine tanks where precise dosing is important, while larger sizes are better suited to established display aquariums requiring ongoing maintenance. Select the appropriate size from the options above.
