ABOUT THIS SPECIES

The White-lipped Tree Frog is Australia’s largest native frog and a proper “big frog” species in the vivarium, with long limbs, oversized toe pads and that crisp pale line along the lower lip. It’s mostly a dusk-and-night animal: during the day it’ll flatten into foliage or sit tucked into a hide, then climb out to hunt once the lights go down.

In the wild it turns up in a wide spread of habitats, from rainforest edges to more modified areas so it’s less fussy than many tropical tree frogs, but it still benefits from a planted, vertical setup with lots of leaf cover and perches at different heights. Give it space to climb, steady warmth without overheating, and humidity delivered in pulses with plenty of ventilation, and you’ll usually see confident evening activity and strong feeding response.
