ABOUT THIS SPECIES

Western hognose snakes are compact, fossorial colubrids from open prairie and sandy grassland habitats. They’re built to dig, using the upturned “spade” snout to push through loose substrate, so a setup with depth and plenty of cover lets them show more natural behaviour.

“Superconda” is commonly used for a strong pattern-reduction look, often producing a much cleaner, darker appearance than a standard Conda as the snake matures. This animal is also listed as het Albino, a recessive gene it can carry without showing visually, which is mainly relevant for breeding outcomes rather than day-to-day care.

With a secure enclosure, a clear warm-to-cool gradient, and consistent feeding, they’re typically an engaging species to observe as they surface, explore, and vanish back into their tunnels.
