How It Works in the Vivarium

Sphagnum moss holds water exceptionally well, making it a reliable choice for species that require elevated humidity. Use it damp as a primary substrate, layer it beneath hides, or pack it into a humid hide or lay box to give gravid females or animals in shed the moisture-rich environment they need.

Preparing the Moss

Before use, place the required amount in a container of clean, de-chlorinated water and leave to soak for around 10 minutes. Lift it out and gently squeeze away any excess water before adding it to the vivarium or hide box. This rehydrates the moss fully and prevents it introducing dry material into a humid set-up.
