Heating: Warm end 32 °C / Cool end 26–28 °C / Night drop 22-24 °C

Humidity: High 60-80 % with good airflow; regular misting recommended to maintain humidity

UVB: Not essential

Diet: Appropriately sized rodents, birds, or rabbits; juveniles fed every 7 days, adults every 14-30 days

Water: Fresh water available at all times; large water bowl for soaking recommended

ABOUT THIS SPECIES

The Amethystine Python is a large, semi-arboreal python from New guinea & Australia, celebrated for its iridescent sheen that gives the scales a purplish “amethyst” glint under light. Juveniles are patterned with dark brown or black markings on a lighter background, which fades and becomes more uniform as they mature.

In the wild, they occupy rainforests, woodlands, and mangrove areas, often climbing trees or resting in dense vegetation. Despite their considerable size, they are relatively agile and strong climbers. In captivity, they require very large enclosures with secure climbing structures, multiple hides, and high humidity to replicate natural conditions. Long-term planning for space and feeding is essential due to their rapid growth and eventual size.
