ABOUT THIS SPECIES

Liasis mackloti savuensis, commonly called the Savu Island Macklot’s Python, is a small, non-venomous constrictor endemic to Savu Island in Indonesia. It is a robust, muscular species with natural colouration ranging from light brown to olive with darker patterns.

Primarily terrestrial, this python may climb when necessary and hunts small mammals and birds by constriction. It is mostly nocturnal and relies on ambush strategies for capturing prey.

In captivity, Savu Island Macklot’s Pythons thrive in spacious enclosures with secure hides, climbing opportunities, and water access for soaking. Maintaining warm temperatures, moderate humidity, and a diet of suitably sized prey promotes healthy growth, activity, and natural behaviour.
