ABOUT THIS SPECIES

Varanus melinus, commonly called the Quince Monitor, is a medium-sized, semi-arboreal monitor lizard endemic to the Indonesian islands. It is highly recognisable for its vivid golden-yellow body with contrasting black markings, giving it a striking appearance.

Diurnal and active, this species utilises both trees and the forest floor while hunting insects, small mammals, and other prey. Its long limbs, strong claws, and prehensile tail make it an agile climber and efficient forager.

In captivity, Quince Monitors thrive in spacious enclosures with vertical climbing opportunities, hiding areas, and access to water. Maintaining warm temperatures, moderate humidity, and a varied carnivorous diet supports natural behaviour, healthy growth, and overall wellbeing.
