Psittacus Lory Nectar is a complementary food formulated specifically for lorikeets and lories — parrots of the Loriinae subfamily. Rich in dehydrated fruit and natural sugars, it mirrors the high-energy, nectar-based diet these birds require in the wild. It is designed to be used alongside a gel-based lory diet, not as a standalone feed.

How to Serve

Psittacus Lory Nectar can be offered dry or mixed with water to form a suspension. If prepared with water, avoid over-diluting — the consistency matters for both palatability and nutritional delivery. Offer it in a separate feeder from any gel diet you are running alongside it; birds will self-regulate their intake of each according to their current nutritional needs.

Part of a Balanced Lory Diet

This is a complementary food and should not be the sole component of the diet. It is recommended to offer it simultaneously with a lory gel product, with both available in separate feeders at all times. When chicks are present in the nest, it is advisable to also provide an appropriate neonatal hand-feeding formula suited to the chicks' age.

Feeding Quantities

As a general guide, lories and lorikeets consume approximately 7–10 g of dry gel and nectar combined per 100 g of body weight daily. Be aware that ambient temperature has a significant influence on daily intake — birds will consume more in warmer conditions.
