Made from exfoliated volcanic rock, it is 100% natural, inert, and will not decay or go mouldy — making it a reliable and stable medium throughout the incubation period.

What It's Made From

Vermiculite is a naturally occurring mineral formed from volcanic rock that has been exfoliated through heating. It is chemically inert, which means it won't interact with eggs or introduce contaminants. Because it resists decay and mould growth, it maintains a stable environment for the duration of incubation.

Using It as an Incubation Medium

Place a generous layer of moistened vermiculite into your incubation container before positioning the eggs. A moisture ratio of 2 parts vermiculite to 1 part water by weight works for many reptile species, though requirements vary — always research the specific needs of the species you are working with before eggs are laid. Eggs should be set with the top third exposed above the surface, kept the same way up as found at the laying site, and positioned so they do not make contact with one another during incubation.

Alternative Use: Invertebrate Substrate

Fine vermiculite is also suitable as a substrate for spiders and other terrestrial invertebrates, providing a loose, natural-feeling medium that holds humidity well.
