ProRep Straw Bedding 25 Litre – Reptile Substrate for Arid Species

PR Straw Bedding is a compressed straw pellet substrate suited to tortoises, large snakes, and lizards from arid environments. The pellets break down into a soft, loose bedding that poses a low impaction risk if ingested — a genuine consideration when keeping species that actively dig or forage through their substrate.

Suitable Species

Designed for keepers of arid-habitat reptiles, this substrate works well for tortoises and large terrestrial species including many commonly kept snakes and lizards. It is not suitable for use in humid or wet vivarium setups.

How to Use

Spread evenly across the enclosure floor to a minimum depth of 2.5–5cm (1–2 inches). Spot-clean daily to remove waste, and carry out a full substrate change every two to three weeks. If the bedding becomes heavily soiled or wet before that point, replace it sooner. This substrate should always be kept dry.

Using with Heat Mats

If an under-tank heat mat is your primary heat source, keep the layer of PR Straw Bedding thin directly above it. An overly thick layer can cause heat to build up and may lead to the mat overheating. Always follow the heat mat manufacturer's guidance on substrate depth.

At 25 litres, this bag provides enough substrate for a meaningful initial fill or several replacement cycles in a standard tortoise table or vivarium, making it a practical choice for regular maintenance routines.
