Product Information
The PR Infrared Spot Lamp 40w ES is a red-spectrum spot lamp designed for day-active and basking reptile species. It produces a focused heat source within the vivarium, combining light output with targeted warmth to support the thermoregulatory needs of species that rely on localised basking spots.
What It Does
This lamp creates a concentrated hot spot at the basking site, simultaneously raising local surface temperatures and contributing to the overall ambient air temperature of the enclosure. The infrared output supports natural basking behaviour, encouraging reptiles to move between warm and cooler zones as they would in the wild.
Supporting Natural Behaviour
Reptiles are ectothermic — they depend entirely on environmental heat sources to regulate their body temperature. By generating a defined thermal gradient within the vivarium, this lamp gives animals the control they need over their own thermoregulation, which is fundamental to digestion, immune function, and general wellbeing.
Setup Guidance
- Mount directly above the intended basking site, positioned approximately one third from one end of the enclosure
- This positioning creates a clear temperature gradient from warm to cool across the length of the vivarium
- Use in an approved ES (Edison Screw) fitting rated for the lamp type
- Ensure the wattage is appropriate for the size and construction of your specific enclosure
A straightforward, reliable heat source for any vivarium setup requiring a defined basking zone — suitable for a wide range of terrestrial and arboreal reptile species kept in the UK.
