ProRep Calcium Sand Blue

ProRep Calcium Sand Blue is a natural limestone-based substrate designed for reptiles from arid and desert environments. Made from pure natural calcium carbonate, it serves a dual purpose: providing a naturalistic vivarium floor covering while also acting as a supplementary calcium source should your animal ingest any during normal behaviour.

Suitable Species and Habitats

This substrate suits a wide range of desert and arid-dwelling reptiles kept in vivariums or terrariums. Because it is derived from natural limestone, incidental ingestion is far less likely to cause gut impaction than conventional sand, making it a more considered choice for species that regularly forage or root through their substrate.

How to Set It Up

Spread the substrate evenly across the base of the enclosure to a depth of at least 2.5–5cm (1–2 inches). This depth gives your animal room to exhibit natural digging behaviour and ensures adequate thermal buffering across the vivarium floor.

Maintenance

• Spot-clean daily to remove waste and maintain hygiene
• Replace the substrate fully every two to three weeks, or sooner if it becomes soiled or damp
• Small sections can be lightly misted to create localised humidity gradients without saturating the substrate
• Avoid allowing the substrate to become overly wet, as this can affect both hygiene and structural integrity

Heat Mat Compatibility

If you are using an under-tank heat mat as your primary heat source, keep the substrate layer at a sensible depth. An excessively thick layer over a heat mat can restrict heat dissipation and risk overheating the mat.
