ProRep Beech Chips Coarse 15kg | Reptile Vivarium Substrate

PR Beech Chips Coarse is a natural, kiln-dried wood substrate suited to a wide range of larger reptiles, birds, and mammals. Produced from sustainably harvested timber and processed to minimise dust, this coarse grade works well in larger vivariums where a robust, loose substrate is needed for snakes, monitors, and similar species.

What It's Made From

The chips are kiln-dried and sourced from sustainably managed forests, giving you a substrate that is dry, consistent, and free from the excess dust that can cause respiratory irritation in captive animals. The coarse grade provides good surface coverage and a natural aesthetic in the enclosure.

Suitable Species

Designed with larger species in mind — including bigger colubrids and boids, large lizards such as monitors and tegus, as well as birds and small mammals. It is not recommended for very small or juvenile reptiles where finer substrates would be more appropriate.

How to Use

• Spread evenly across the enclosure floor to a depth of at least 2.5–5cm (1–2 inches)
• Spot-clean daily to remove waste and maintain hygiene
• Replace the substrate fully every two to three weeks, or sooner if it becomes wet or heavily soiled
• If using an under-tank heat mat, avoid deep layers of substrate directly over the mat — excessive depth can trap heat and cause the mat to overheat; always follow the heat mat manufacturer's guidance
