Product Information
PR Bark Chips Coarse is a 100% natural substrate suited to any vivarium housing species that depend on a humid environment. Whether you keep forest reptiles, jungle amphibians, or tropical invertebrates, this coarse-grade bark provides a naturalistic base layer that supports the conditions these animals need to thrive.
Suitable Species
Designed for humidity-loving species, this substrate works well for amphibians, forest and jungle reptiles, and invertebrates. The coarse grade allows airflow through the layer while still retaining enough moisture to support elevated humidity levels when required.
Moisture and Humidity
PR Bark Chips Coarse can be lightly moistened to boost enclosure humidity without becoming waterlogged. Keep the substrate damp, not saturated — overly wet bark breaks down quickly and can create conditions unsuitable for your animals.
How to Use
- Spread evenly across the base of the enclosure to a minimum depth of 5cm (approximately 2 inches)
- Spot-clean daily to remove waste and maintain hygiene
- Replace the full substrate every two to three weeks, or sooner if heavily soiled
Heat Mat Compatibility
If you are using an under-tank heat mat as your primary heat source, avoid laying a deep bed of bark chips directly over it. Excessive substrate depth can restrict heat dissipation and cause the mat to overheat — always follow the heat mat manufacturer's guidance on substrate depth.
A reliable, natural substrate in a practical 10-litre bag, PR Bark Chips Coarse gives keepers a straightforward, species-appropriate option for building out humid vivarium setups.
