Product Information

PR Aspen Bedding is a dry, loose wood substrate suited to snakes, many lizards, birds, and small mammals. Shredded from non-toxic timber sourced through sustainable forestry, it offers a clean, natural-looking floor covering that handles waste well and keeps enclosures looking tidy between full changes.

What it's made from

The bedding is produced from shredded aspen wood — a non-toxic, odourless material that won't introduce harmful compounds to your vivarium. It comes from sustainably managed forests, making it a responsible choice for keepers who care about sourcing.

Key properties

  • Soft texture — gentle on colubrids and other ground-dwelling species
  • Dust-free formula — important for species sensitive to respiratory irritation
  • Highly absorbent — draws moisture away from the surface to keep the substrate dry on top
  • Odourless — does not introduce any artificial scents to the enclosure

How to use it

Spread the substrate evenly across the enclosure floor to a minimum depth of 2.5–5cm (1–2 inches). Spot-clean daily, removing soiled or damp patches as they appear. Replace the entire substrate every two to three weeks, or sooner if it becomes heavily contaminated or wet.

Using it with heat mats

If an under-tank heat mat is your primary heat source, keep the layer depth conservative. An overly thick layer of aspen can trap heat beneath the surface and cause the mat to overheat. Always check the heat mat manufacturer's guidance on substrate depth before use.

At 25 litres, this bag suits medium to large vivarium setups or keepers who prefer to buy in bulk and reduce how often they restock. A straightforward, reliable substrate for everyday vivarium husbandry.
