Product Information

PL Vermiculite Coarse BULK – 100 Litre is a natural, coarse-grade incubation substrate suited to reptile keepers who incubate eggs regularly or in volume. Made from exfoliated volcanic rock, it is 100% natural, fully inert, and will not decay or develop mould — giving eggs a stable, clean environment throughout the incubation period. The bulk 100-litre format makes it a practical choice for breeders and serious hobbyists who go through significant quantities each season.

What it is

Vermiculite is exfoliated volcanic rock — lightweight, pH-neutral, and biologically inert. Because it does not break down or support microbial growth, it maintains consistent conditions around the egg without introducing contamination risks. It also works as a substrate for tarantulas and other invertebrates where a dry or lightly moistened layer is appropriate.

Using it as an incubation medium

Place a deep layer of moistened vermiculite into your incubation box before introducing eggs. A starting moisture ratio of 2 parts vermiculite to 1 part water by weight is appropriate for many reptile species, though specific requirements vary — always research the needs of your species before eggs are laid. Place eggs so that the upper third remains exposed, and take care to transfer them from the laying site without rotating them. Wherever possible, arrange eggs so they do not make contact with one another during incubation.

A note on incubation

Incubating reptile eggs successfully depends on getting species-specific conditions right — temperature, humidity, and substrate moisture all interact. The vermiculite is one part of that system. Have a calibrated incubator ready and your target parameters confirmed before your animals lay. The right preparation before eggs arrive makes all the difference.

At 100 litres, this bulk format keeps you stocked through a full breeding season without repeated reordering — useful when timing matters and consistency counts.
