ABOUT THIS SPECIES

Leiopython albertisii, commonly called the Northern White-lipped Python, is a medium to large, non-venomous constrictor native to the lowland and mid-montane forests of Papua New Guinea. Its common name comes from the distinctive white markings along its upper lip.

Primarily terrestrial but capable of climbing, this species is nocturnal and ambushes prey including mammals and birds. It is known for its robust build, calm disposition, and striking colouration which varies from dark brown to nearly black with lighter patterns.

In captivity, Northern White-lipped Pythons thrive in spacious enclosures with hides, climbing surfaces, and access to water. Maintaining warm temperatures, moderate humidity, and providing appropriately sized prey supports healthy growth, natural behaviour, and overall wellbeing.
