ABOUT THIS SPECIES

The Afghan Leopard Gecko is a naturally occurring regional form of the leopard gecko complex, originating from more arid, elevated habitats than many other populations. It is often slightly smaller and more compact in build, with subtler patterning and more muted sandy or grey tones suited to rocky terrain.

In the wild, this form inhabits dry, stony landscapes with sparse vegetation, sheltering beneath rocks and within crevices during daylight hours. It is primarily nocturnal and terrestrial, emerging after dusk to hunt insects. In captivity, a dry, well-ventilated enclosure with secure hides and a defined warm area supports normal behaviour. The fat tail serves as an indicator of body condition, reflecting appropriate feeding and husbandry.
