Native Range: Afghanistan, Pakistan, India, and Nepal — semi-desert, arid grassland, and dry forested areas

Enclosure: A minimum 90×45×45cm Viperia PVC vivarium is recommended. As a ground-dwelling species, floor space matters far more than height. Furnish with a sandy or loose substrate mix, multiple hides (including a warm hide, cool hide, and a humid moss hide for shedding), and low rocky décor to mimic their natural rocky scrubland environment.
Heating: Warm side surface temperature of 28–32°C (under a heat mat or low-wattage overhead heat source); ambient cool side around 24–26°C; a night-time drop to 18–22°C is natural and beneficial.
Humidity: 30–40% ambient humidity, achieved by allowing the enclosure to dry fully between light mistings. A dedicated humid hide filled with damp sphagnum moss should always be available, particularly during shedding.
UVB: A 6% UVB tube run along most of the vivarium's width, positioned so the animal can bask approximately 20–30cm from the lamp. While leopard geckos are crepuscular (most active around dawn and dusk) and can survive without UVB, low-level UV exposure reflects their natural conditions and supports long-term health and calcium metabolism.
Diet: Live invertebrates — primarily crickets, dubia roaches, and mealworms, with variety such as waxworms offered occasionally as a treat. Juveniles should be fed every other day; adults can be fed every 2–3 days. All prey items should be gut-loaded (fed nutritious food before being offered) and dusted with a calcium and vitamin D3 supplement at most feedings.

Leopard geckos are a ground-dwelling lizard native to the rocky semi-deserts and dry grasslands of South and Central Asia, where they spend the day sheltering beneath stones, in crevices, and within old stone walls, emerging at dusk to hunt. Their bold spotted patterning — which gives the species its name — provides excellent camouflage among the dusty, dappled terrain of their homeland, and decades of captive breeding have produced a dazzling array of colour and pattern morphs from that same wild foundation.

They are widely considered one of the very best beginner reptiles available, being hardy, handleable, and reliably easy to feed, yet they remain equally rewarding for experienced keepers who enjoy the breadth of morph diversity on offer.
