ABOUT THIS SPECIES

The Lined Leaf-Tailed Gecko is a distinctive Madagascan species recognised by the longitudinal striping that runs along its body and tail, setting it apart from the more mottled members of the genus. Its flattened body, scalloped skin edges and leaf-like tail provide effective camouflage against bark and foliage.

In the wild, it inhabits humid eastern Madagascan forests, resting vertically on tree trunks during the day and emerging at night to hunt insects. Although arboreal, it often chooses broad trunks and solid surfaces rather than thin branches. In captivity, a vertically oriented enclosure with good airflow, regular misting and ample climbing structure supports natural behaviour while preventing stagnant humidity.
