LR Jungle Bedding 10L is a sand-blended substrate mix developed specifically for tropical terrariums. It is aimed at keepers maintaining humid vivarium setups where moisture retention, structural integrity, and a naturalistic soil profile all matter — think rainforest dart frog builds, bioactive chameleon enclosures, or planted tropical reptile setups.

Formulation and Soil Chemistry

The substrate is formulated to replicate the leaf-humus layers found on tropical rainforest floors, with a pH sitting in the range of approximately 5.5–6.5. No surfactants or fertilisers have been added, making it safe for sensitive species and compatible with live planting without risk of chemical interference.

Moisture Management

One of the key properties of LR Jungle Bedding is its water retention capability. The substrate holds moisture effectively through misting cycles, and — critically — even when it dries out, it rehydrates quickly and evenly rather than forming hydrophobic clumps. This makes it more forgiving than basic coco coir or topsoil alternatives in setups where moisture levels fluctuate.

Structural Stability

The sand content in the mix gives LR Jungle Bedding a structural stability that pure organic substrates lack. It holds burrows and surface detail well, supports plant roots, and does not compact into a waterlogged mass under sustained humidity when used correctly.

Drainage Layering

To get the best from this substrate in a sealed or heavily misted enclosure, pairing it with a dedicated drainage layer beneath is strongly recommended. A hydro drain medium topped with a fine separation fleece beneath the bedding will prevent the lower substrate from becoming stagnant — a common issue in high-humidity builds that this layered approach resolves effectively.
