These are large, active, semi-arboreal lizards that need generous floor space combined with meaningful height; aim for a minimum of 180×90cm footprint with 90–120cm of height, or larger for adults. Furnish with thick, sturdy branches for climbing and basking, a deep moisture-retaining substrate such as coco-fibre or a bioactive mix, and secure, spacious hides at both the warm and cool ends.
Heating: Basking spot of 38–42°C; ambient cool side around 26–28°C; night-time temperatures can drop to 22–24°C without issue.
Humidity: 70–85%; achieved through daily misting, a large water feature or bowl, and a moisture-retaining substrate. Good ventilation is essential to prevent stagnant, stale air despite the high humidity requirement.
UVB: A 12% UVB tube run along most of the vivarium's width, positioned so that the animal can bask 25–35cm from the lamp. Sailfin dragons are strong, open-sun baskers (diurnal — active during the day) in the wild and require intense UVB exposure to synthesise vitamin D3 and remain healthy in captivity.
Diet: Omnivorous — offer a varied diet of leafy greens, flowers, and fruit as the dietary staple, supplemented several times a week with live insects (locusts, dubia roaches, crickets) and occasional lean protein. Juveniles should be fed daily with a higher proportion of insects to support growth; adults can be fed every one to two days with the balance shifting toward plant matter. Dust food items with a calcium supplement at most feeds and a quality multivitamin once or twice a week.
